One of the expressions that I still relate to my life at the moment is THINK BIG. Carson’s story and it only pushes to me to work harder because if he did it then so can I. Raised by a single mother, I can relate to Dr. Personally, “Gifted Hands” is one of my favorite books and movies to watch because his story is very similar to my own. From there it didn’t take long for him to become one of the most respected and renowned pediatric neurosurgeons in the country. He took his interest and got accepted at John Hopkins for his residency program. In medical school, he became fond of Neurosurgery because of a new technique in that area. Later on, Ben graduated from Yale and went to medical school at University of Michigan. However with prayer and help from Candy, Ben worked hard and succeeded Chemistry with an A. While his social life seem to take a turn for the better, Ben’s academics slowly declined, especially in Chemistry. They dated while at Yale and eventually married. Soon he found the love of his life and future wife in Candy. Ben took more interest in learning how to read better, do his time tables and even took new interest in the sciences.īy the end of his middle school and high school years, Ben ranked amongst the highest in his academics and attended Yale University for his undergrad. Fortunately, Ben and his brother improved drastically in their school work. Instead they were to spend their time reading books and reciting a book report to their mother by the end of the week. Eventually, Ben’s mother noticed what was going on and encouraged the ideals of education in the household by only allowing Ben and his brother watch 2 TV shows a week. So instead of putting more effort into his school work, Ben spent most of his time watching Tv with his older brother at home. Kids teased him and called him the “dumb kid”. In terms of schooling, Ben’s performance was very poor. Carson and his brother by working multiple jobs. His mother struggled to put food on the table for Dr. The story begins in his childhood, growing up in the rough parts of Detroit as a poor kid with a single mother. Carson’s remarkable story taking us from his struggling childhood to his success as a renowned Pediatric Neurosurgeon. Ben Carson’s “Gifted Hands” is an extraordinary book that talks about Dr. ![]()
